The World Resources Database provides detailed statistics on conditions and trends in the natural and human environments. There are approximately 450 variables and 200 countries in the database. Developed and maintained by the World Resources Institute, it was created, in part, to support the World Resources report series. The latest edition of the report, World Resources 1996-97: A Guide to the Global Environment was published in April, 1996 and is a joint publication of the World Resources Institute, the United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations Development Programme, and the World Bank. Much of the data contained in WRD appears in print format in World Resources 1996-97.
